We usually spend quite a bit doing up our bathrooms with quality products so they look good and last a long time. But keeping our bathroom vanities and cabinets looking shiny and new can be a tricky affair. You could end up damaging your bathroom vanity sets if you are not careful when cleaning them.

Here are a few basic tips and tricks to help you clean you bathroom vanities and cabinets so they look good all the time.

What not to use:

Did you know that cleaning your bathroom vanities and cabinets using the wrong cleaners can actually damage your bathroom vanity sets? So before you get started, make sure you avoid usage of really corrosive cleaners and rough metal based scrubs.

Getting Started:

To get started, clear your bathroom vanities and cabinets of all the stuff you have on the counter top and in the drawers or shelves.

For those items you usually place on the counter tops like bottles and glasses, be sure to clean the bottoms of those items. We usually clean the counter tops of our bathroom vanities but miss cleaning these items completely.

Cleaning the bottoms of glasses and bottles will help prevent the growth of fungus and molds that have a tendency to accumulate in that area.

The Proper Way to Clean:

Consider the material of the countertop before you start cleaning. For wooden tops, refrain from using bleach to remove stains. If the stains are not too stubborn, light sanding and finishing would suffice. Otherwise get the help of a professional to sand and finish the counter top for you.

If the counter top is made of porcelain or laminates try using bleach or mild cleaners to get rid of stains. The classic concoction of baking soda, lemon juice, and vinegar has been known to help with stubborn stains.

If the top is made of marble, avoid the above mixture as the acidic content will corrode the polished marble layer and cause it to look dull. Instead use a pH-neutral solution along with a piece of micro fiber cloth to clean your marble top.

After Cleaning:

Be sure to dry the surface right after you clean it as even the tiniest water droplets can leave can leave a stain on your marble top. Give your bathroom vanities and cabinets a good once over with a dry micro fiber cloth. Light furniture polish and a glass cleaner will add shine to wood cabinet fronts and glass panels.

To help prevent fungus growth, within your bathroom vanity sets, place few packs of silica gel or other moisture absorbing products in the storage area. Remember to replace them when necessary.

Big Ideas for Small Bathrooms

Pisa Modern Pedestal Sink
A little color change and some cleverly thought out lighting choices can go a long way when dealing with a small bathroom space.

Try these simple decorating tricks to make your smaller space look and feel larger.

Color Correction:

Keep in mind that pale, soft, muted color schemes offer serenity and openness in tiny spaces. Stay away from strong and bold color on the walls, but instead reserve those color choices for accessories or towels. Remember that “cool” colors such as pastels will lend a peaceful and calm nature to the room. TheInteriorGallery.com offers wide variety of over 500 bathroom vanities in muted and neutral pallets.

Let Some Light In:

Bringing in extra light is a great idea with out having to compromise much needed countertop space. Cost efficient lighting options include adding recessed lighting such as can lights in the ceiling. These can do wonders when you are able to position them in areas where you need the light the most. Wall sconces and small chandeliers can add warmth to a dull bathroom. Other more costly, but simple, options such as adding skylights or larger windows can be a great investment for your home as well.
